How many hours will I need to pass my test?
The official DSA answer is "on average between 40 and 60 hours of professional tuition". In reality this can be rather misleading. Few people pass in less than 40 hours unless they have their own car and practise for hours. Age and circumstances also play a great role in the ability to learn. The most important factor though is willingness to learn.
What will I need to bring with me on my first lesson?
You will need both parts of your photo licence, or your licence and another form of ID for the old style paper licences. Also you will need prescription glasses if you have them and comfortable footwear, not flip flops or boots.
What do I need to take with me for my theory test?
You will need both parts of your photo licence, or your licence and another form of ID for the old style paper licences. You will also need the letter the DSA sent informing you of your test time. Don't forget - no licence, no test!!!
What do I need to take with me for my practical test?
You will need both parts of your photo licence, or your licence and another form of ID for the old style paper licences. You will also need the letter the DSA sent informing you of your test time. Don't forget - no licence, no test!!!
What if I can not find these documents?
If you can not find your letter from the DSA you can still take your test. It is helpful to have it if there are any queries about your test time. If you do not have your theory certificate you should be able to take your test, but may have to fill in additional forms. If you cannot find the paper part of your licence this will result in extra paperwork and still being allowed to take the test. However, the DSA are going to stop this in the future. If you cannot find the photo part of your licence or ID the result is no test!!! In exceptional circumstances the DSA helpdesk may be able to help, but don't hold your breath.
The best advice we can give is to get your paperwork ready at least two weeks in advance so there is plenty of time to get any replacement document if necessary.
Can I be collected from or dropped off at an address other than my home?
Within reason, all our instructors are happy to pick up from any address. Again, at the end of the lesson drop off somewhere else if you prefer.
Yes we do Intensive driving courses.
What is the optimum way to learn?
Good question. This varies from person to person. However, most people find a two-hour lesson every week to be most beneficial. Of course this may not be right for you, so we will find your optimum learning curve.
What is the average waiting times for a test?
From booking a test the wait at present is about eight weeks in Gillingham. This varies from week to week and from centre to centre.
What test centre(s) can I use?
We use Gillingham and Gravesend test centre because most people live near the test routes and makes for easy practice.
What is the two year probationary period?
Up to two years after passing your test ALL penalty points accrued are doubled! This means only six points required to lose licence instead of twelve. If you are unfortunate enough to reach six points they will replace your licence with an application form for a provisional licence. This means another theory test and another practical test - and who wants to do that?!
Who can accompany me for practise in my own car?
Anyone who is over 21 and has held a full UK (or full EC/EEA) licence for over three years.
For your convenience we now accept all major credit / debit cards.
